October 8, 2009: American Electric Provides Free Electrical Service to Nonprofit Facility

Honolulu, HI – In conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week (October 5th-10th), American Electric's Residential Services Division has given a free electrical inspection as the company's community service to a local nonprofit facility to reduce the risk of electrical fire. According to the U.S. Fire Administration's web site, "Most electrical fires result from problems with 'fixed wiring' such as faulty electrical outlets and old wiring. In urban areas, faulty wiring accounts for 33% of residential electrical fires." American Electric's Residential Services Division also plans to donate the necessary repairs on the minor problems that they found during their inspection.

"We wanted to provide this valuable service to this particular nonprofit that performs an invaluable service for women and children. Although its not too expensive, they can now use their limited funds for their organizational mission, instead of overhead costs," said Calvin Jeong, Director of Residential Sales for American Electric. "The CurrentSAFE® system allows homeowners to rest assured that they're safe from the risk of electrical fire."

The CurrentSAFE® inspection is a state-of-the-art service that uses infrared and ultrasonic testing equipment to detect concealed electrical problems within the home. Using the new CurrentSAFE® equipment, electricians can evaluate the entire electrical system within the home/unit. Previously this type of preventive and maintenance technology was only available to commercial and industrial customers. Upon completion, homeowners receive a comprehensive report specifying any and all electrical risk factors. These risks include wiring and outlet problems, shock hazards and other electrical issues.

American Electric Company, LLC, Hawaii's largest, locally owned electrical contractor, has opened up a wide range of electrical services to Hawaii homes through its new Residential Services Division in September. Since its inception, the Residential Division has received numerous inquiries, and is already busy with a number of appointments for October.

FREE Initial Consultations for Oahu Homeowners
American Electric will be offering free initial home consultations of electrical system components to Oahu homeowners. These consultations take roughly two hours and will help determine if the residence needs CurrentSAFE® preventive inspection and service.
